  • DJI is a global consumer technology brand. This engagement covered the German market only.
  • Keywords ranking in Google’s top 10 in Germany grew from 4,897 to 8,123 over twelve months, a rise of 66%.
  • Keywords in positions four to ten more than doubled, up 104%, while top three rankings grew 36%.
  • DJI took position one in Germany for gimbal, gimbal kamera, kamera gimbal, gimbal handy and vlog kamera.
  • The work also launched Amflow, DJI’s electric mountain bike brand, into German search from a standing start.

‍

About the client

‍

DJI makes drones, gimbals, action cameras, microphones and portable power stations. The engagement covered Germany, where the brand is well known for drones and far less established in the categories it has expanded into since.

‍

Challenge

‍

Brand strength does not transfer between categories. In Germany, DJI ranked comfortably where buyers already associated it with the product, and barely registered where they did not. The site was unranked for helmkamera, for lavalier mikrofon, for mikrofon für handy and for power station, all categories DJI actually competes in. Action cam sat at position 90.

‍

German category search is also unforgiving in a specific way. Buyers use German compound terms, not English product names, and a page optimised for the global term does not rank for the German one no matter how strong the domain.

‍

On top of that came Amflow, DJI’s electric mountain bike brand, which had to enter an established German category where nobody was searching for it by name.

‍

‍

[SOLUTION]

Solution

01 || Compete on the German category term, not the brand term. || Target pages were rebuilt around how German buyers describe the product, covering compound terms like helmkamera and gimbal kamera rather than relying on English product naming to carry the ranking.

02 || Expand beyond the categories DJI was already known for. || Microphones, action cameras and portable power stations were treated as their own ranking problems with their own keyword sets, rather than as extensions of the drone authority.

03 || Launch a brand nobody was searching for. || For Amflow, the strategy targeted the category terms buyers use before they know the brand, emtb, e mountainbike and e bike fully, so the product could be discovered without name recognition.

Results

‍

Across 2025, keywords ranking in Google’s top 10 in Germany grew from 4,897 to 8,123, an increase of 66%. The shape of that growth matters. Keywords in positions four to ten rose 104%, from 2,162 to 4,415, while top three positions grew 36%, from 2,735 to 3,708. The site was not just strengthening where it already ranked, it was entering the top 10 across thousands of terms it had not competed for.

‍

The headline category terms moved to position one: gimbal from 6, gimbal kamera from 5, kamera gimbal from 2, gimbal handy from 17 and vlog kamera from 8. Action cam went from position 90 to 4. Helmkamera and mikrofon für handy went from unranked to positions 2 and 4.

‍

Amflow entered German search from nothing, reaching position 7 for emtb and 10 for e bike fully inside the year.

‍

Looking ahead

‍

The position four to ten band is where the next year’s growth sits. More than 4,400 German keywords now rank on page one but below the top three, which is the cheapest traffic available to the site because the hard work of earning relevance is already done.

‍

Figures are from Ahrefs, filtered to the Germany region, covering January to December 2025, as recorded in the client’s yearly report.
